It's pretty unreal that he has a chance at 3,000 with how late he broke in. You have to wonder where his hit total would be if he started his MLB career earlier.
Hard to say, because you could also argue that his time in Japan prepared him for MLB, but I think he probably would have produced the same.
If so, he'd be chasing Rose and not 3,000
