TNA started losing momentum right after their highest point of interest. They signed Kurt Angle -- the best wrestler in the world -- and they follow up by signing Vince Russo. TNA did not need a creative change in direction, and the attention-seeking writing of Vince Russo ruined a lot of good will TNA had going for them.
It's four years down the track, and the olympiad has not seen TNA make any major ground. This is with the inclusion of big wrestling names -- like Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair -- and it doesn't come much bigger than that.
If TNA did some simple shit, like continued to write-off some of the older guys that can't go nearly as well anymore, and had them retire to some sort of road agent-type roles; and if they really worked on things such as their production, and putting emphasis where the WWE doesn't put emphasis; they could really gather some momentum behind them.
One of the best storylines in wrestling this year involved Kurt Angle starting at the bottom of the roster and working his way up to the top and the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. What worked about it, was that shit was simple. But they complicated things by adding the "drama" of Angle's career being on the line. Less is often more; and Angle's career being on the line actually telegraphed endings -- which SUBTRACTED drama from the storyline! And now TNA has the problem where Kurt Angle is written off from television.
How is TNA going to bring Angle back? Is someone going to win him back his contract? That is stupid, because beyond all, Angle is a threat to anyone's chances at being TNA World Champion. Angle should fight for himself, and others should have the confidence in themselves to battle The Immortals and Fortune without his aid. I'm almost expecting a segment to air where Dixie Carter is lying in bed, exhausted, and says "That is amazing. You can have your job back," leading to the camera panning over to reveal Angle next to her. He lets out a "Wooo!" and the TNA intro starts. That would probably be more awesome than anything TNA has in-store for the angle.
I feel like I say this shit all the time, though. TNA has three stooges syndrome going on in their main event, not really knowing who they want to be their top face against Jeff Hardy. Is it Matt Morgan, Mr. Anderson, D'Angelo Dinero, Samoa Joe or Kurt Angle? It's times like these that secondary titles become useful, but AJ Styles is almost keeping the TNA Television Title invisible.
