Chairs and Blading...

I'm watching the Eddie/Bradshaw match, and seeing how badly Eddie bladed, so the chair shot looks devistating... What I dont understand (From a reality standpoint in that it is supposed to be "real"), is that how are you supposed to be cut from a solid object, which, most likley, doesnt have sharp corners? I could undertand brusing and welting, but bleeding? (Aside from the fact that it's the only thing they really have time for...)
