There was a TV series for Harry and the Henderson for Christ's sake.
The 70s and 80s were eras for "throw everything you can up and see what sticks" in TV.

As bad as some of the adaptations were, I still think I prefer that mentaility to the one of "half the shows must be reality TV and the other half crime dramas."
