I do get what he's saying though. Find your own identity and grow out of it. But at the same time, lots of promotions with their own identity never grow. Look at ROH. Fantastic identity. Rabid fans. But they're stuck. The only promotions with any sustained long term success were WWF and WCW, so it would make sense to imitate them.

But there's a fine line between imitation and duplication. And I'm not even talking about something like this video. When I look at the core of TNA, all I see is 90% of the mistakes in the 90s being made in one company today. I honestly see TNA as the shitty parts of the Attitude Era with a better overall roster. It's commendable that they've tried these things. I won't berate them for TRYING things to see if they would work, even bringing in Hogan and Bischoff. In fact, I was kind of defending the decision of bringing them in until they showed exactly what they brought to the table. But when they clearly don't work and/or outright bomb, they continue doing the same things. They don't learn from their mistakes, and Dixie is loyal to a fault.
I've always believed that Sports Entertainment is the only pro wrestling product that will sell to the mainstream today, but that doesn't mean they have to try to be something they're not, can't or shouldn't be. They can be sports entertainment without being a rip-off or even a second-rate WWE.
