Reavant, there is a Mortal Kombat novel out there that is pretty damn good. I read it when I was a young teen so I don't know how it holds up today, but I remember it being the most enjoyable interpretation of the mortal kombat story I had ever seen(despite Johnny Cage being absent). It is based around the first game.
