Mario has to release Cooke. He's gone on record for stating his issues with the league, so now he'll have to step up and eat Cooke's contract. If he doesn't he comes off as a hypocrite.

I don't know Cooke's contract...but guaranteed if that contract goes beyond the end of this year...then Pens buy him out...
He'll be a free agent, but he's still good enough that some other team will offer him a contract...then he will be collection pay cheques from 2 NHL teams.
He's Sean Avery minus the hot ex girlfriends...
