Orton was always going to be the face of SmackDown. That's fine and dandy, and makes sense since the crowd goes apeshit for him week in and week out. He bores me personally, more so than Cena by a wide margin...but I'd never say it's a bad business decision.

I just think it's a bit daft to take the belt off Christian at the very first possible opportunity, essentially admitting he only won the belt to have a happy ending for Edge's retirement. Given the rather weak face scene on SmackDown, letting Christian hold it for a PPV or two while building up to the eventual Orton win wouldn't have hurt any, and would at least keep Christian in a position where he could be a credible challenger to plug into a main event down the line.

As such, now that he's lost the belt so quickly I don't really see how they can salvage anything main event worthy out of face Christian. He needs to go heel if he's going to be back in the main event, and I'd be all for it. The face scene on SmackDown is incredibly weak, but since Orton is going to be assuming the Batista role (either the champion or #1 contender no matter what), there isn't really a need for a proper #2 face on the brand.

So yeah. We all knew it was coming, I'm just shocked that it was this soon.
