Both. Obviously the IWC fans cared more about Christian. But the casual fans still care, not as passionately, but they care. Take for example the obviously "anti" Cena fan base that extends well beyond the IWC.
Although in rereading what I wrote, I think I made a mistake. I don't think WWE fans care more about the outcome than indy fans per se. Let me rephrase it a little. Indy fans care more about the match in the ring, the style, basically, how good the match is, and how much they enjoy the match. The WWE fans care more about the overall product, meaning not only who wins the match, if it's good or not (but not to the extent of indy nitpicking), but also the general overall entertainment value of the show.
So yeah, I'd say a lot of indy fans care about the quality of the match, not the outcome, where most WWE fans care about the overall quality. An indy fan is more likely to pick out a match that sucked, or an interview segment that ran too long. Whereas a WWE fan is more likely to pick out a more technical match as not being exciting.
With that said though, I will say that the IWC WWE fans care a lot more about outcomes than IWC indy fans. I generally don't see the extreme bitching about guys on the indy scene when they lose like I do when Christian lost, or Cena wins.
