They're not
THAT far off. Geritt Cole, their 2011 1st overall pick, should move through the system rather quickly and could be up by next year. They still have James Tallion moving ever closer, and their current crop iof youngsters in Walker, Alvarez and McCutchen provide a very solid offensive core.
Their top catching prospect, Tony Sanchez, is also getting closer and could be a very good offensive catcher, especially in tha ball park.
I think if they can get an ace (Cole) and a real #2 starter, they could compete in that division. It is not that strong.
