Jeter is just ridiculously overpaid, his defense is suspect, and he plays for the Yankees. Nobody seemed to have a problem with ARod till he donned the stripes. Comes with the territory. I think he's a bit overrated overall at this point in his career, but a lot of that has to do with him being so good for so long that analysts will automatically praise him even though he's no longer as deserving as others (see Jhonny Peralta and Asdrubal Cabrera).

Pretty sure everything I stated above were all kind, objective words for Mr. Jeter. He is overpaid, and his defense is suspect.
Most people hate him because he's a Yankee. Like I said, comes with the territory. I do agree that ESPN goes gaga over him to the point of becoming ridiculous. While he's still a league average, maybe a tick better, shortstop, they treat him as if he's a flipping God, which he no longer is. And unless he hits .350 with 20 HR and plays spectacular, rangey defense, that contract is never going to be matched with performance. He made it due to the Yankees being able to afford to overpay him.
