They are later vindicated, yes. Dumbledore can do no wrong, the Slytherin are generally evil snidely whiplash motherfuckers, and he just happened into the right worldview (unless you count tacit approval of slavery and segregation, in which case, he's still a little fuckhead), but the point is, he's rewarded for having blind faith in things he has no reason to trust.
