I think the epilogue was great in the book. Really did closure for the reader letting them know the characters were able to move on with their lives. That Ron married and had kids with Hermione, Harry married Ginny and they had kids. Also I think it shows how Harrys perception of Snape changed by naming his son Albus Severus Potter.
For the movie, I think they could of left it out since obviously trying to show them as older didn't work out at all.
