Maybe you're thinking of New Midnight Express?

Holly was named "Bombastic Bob" and Bart Gunn was named "Bodacious Bart", but I don't think they both wore the checkered pit jackets you're talking about.

The only tag team I can think of that wore those, were Koko B. Ware and Owen Hart when they were a tag team know as "High Energy".
