I think everybody wants to make as much money as possible whilst doing material that they're cool with doing. A person's passion for either side of that varies from wrestler to wrestler, but whatever company can meet the happiest medium for that wrestler usually ends up being the place they stay. Now, you can either gain that happy medium by being undeniably talented, or you can have friends in high places. A person's willingness to work the system then sets people apart, and the people who often get butt hurt are those who are talented that get passed up by people with friends.
That's my guess anyway.
