I think he's not as good as everyone wanted him to be. He has a great personality, but as a fighter his biggest accomplishment is almost beating Jake Shields.
I'm almost tempted to say it was the whole Octagon jitters/first fight back in the UFC adrenaline dump thing, but it's not like he was going against GSP in Toronto for the Welterweight strap. It was at the Palms in front of 80 drunks. He's fought in front of much bigger crowds. Didn't seem to bother Nick Diaz too much either and he had a whole shit storm around him.
Even the lay-off isn't that great of an excuse. Chael, Rashad and Big Nog were off just as long or longer than he was and they decimated their opponents when they came back. If he was the real deal, he still may not have won, but he wouldn't have been dominated the way he was either.
I feel like Bisping was a huge step up from the last cans Miller crushed in Japan/Strikeforce and dude got exposed.
