A bit surprised considering Selig has stated plenty of times the last extension was to be his last since he wants to retire once its done.

I wonder if the owners are worried his potential successor that Selig/MLB has been grooming won't be as good as Selig (in terms of owners interest) or could be pro-player like the one before Selig.

Right now he's right behind the 1st commish for longest tenure but at the same time has been loosing fan support ever since the tied All-Star game and not doing nothing during the roid era even though it helped MLB post-1994 lockout.
