I feel like Brock's early success kind of fucked him for later. The wins came so easily that he probably didn't see a need to actively spar to improve his stand up and figured all he needed was his wrestling and superior size and athleticism. Once he came against guys who weren't in their mid 40s with better stand up than Mir and Herrig his flaws got exposed.
