Report: Raiders considering three, including “mystery candidate” Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 24, 2012, 2:34 PM EST ESPN reported earlier Tuesday that Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is the leading candidate to get the head coaching job in Oakland. A report from our friend Paul Gutierrez of CSNBayArea.com has more information, saying Allen is one of three finalists for the job. It’s down to Allen, Packers linebackers coach Winston Moss, and a “mystery candidate.” McKenzie says the process could end by Saturday. While we try to think who the mystery man might be, it’s worth noting that the two reports don’t necessarily conflict. Gutierrez and Mort Scheftersen both say that Marty Mornhinweg is out of the running. Gutierrez says Pete Carmichael has also been informed he won’t get the job. It’s possible the Raiders are zeroing in on Allen, but two other men still have a shot if things don’t progress between Allen and the Raiders. Hiring Allen would be a departure for the Raiders and new G.M. Reggie McKenzie. Oakland has a long tradition of hiring offensive-minded coaches, and McKenzie hasn’t worked with Allen in the past.
