Not too sure about the logistics of baseball contracts, but I definitely remember reading about how the Mets in 2010 purposely waited until the end of April to call up Ike Davis because it would guarantee he'd be under team control for that extra year.

If that's always the case, I really don't think Harper will break camp in the bigs. Is an extra 3-4 weeks of Bryce Harper really worth sacrificing an extra year of having him under team control? They appear to have a good team even without him. Call him up at the end of April if he gets off to a hot start.
