Nintendo held a special Direct conference viewable from the 3DS with a new Mario Tennis game called Mario Tennis Open arriving this May and the NES game of Kid Icraus getting the 3D Classic treatment.

The biggest new feature is the way you interact with friends. There is still the classic local play for up to 4 players (over WiFi), but now you can play online with your friends, or play an open match against a stranger (stranger danger).
There will be some form of online progression, including leaderboards, and various events. There will of course be implementation of new control schemes like using the touch-screen will supplement buttons for specific volleys and the gyroscope can be used to look around the court by tilting the 3DS. Intense rallies and Peach in a mini-skirt are all coming to the 3DS on May 20th.

The 3D Classic of Kid Icarus is set to arrive around the same week as Kid Icarus Uprising on the 3DS.
Multiplayer modes for Kid Icarus Uprising was also revealed today with a Light vs Dark mode and a Free-For-All mode explained.

Kid Icarus Uprising multiplayer was detailed showing off a few modes. The Light vs. Dark is an interesting combat mode that requires teamwork to win. Three player teams essentially share a health bar and weapon enough players have died, one will be reincarnated as Pit (or Dark Pit). Thos angels must be defended in a sort of last man standing mode, first team to lose their angel, lose the match. There is also a Free-For-All mode, which much like the Light vs. Dark mode, can be played online and globally.

Nintendo also announced a new AR game called Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir will arrive on April 13.

2nd Edit: Nintendo revealed Capcom, Namco, and Sega are currently working together on a cross-over project for the 3DS with the codename of "Impossible to predict".
