EDIT: And on top of that, Kryptonite really isn't all it's cracked up to be. Supes has muscled through K-poisoning countless times. He's been shot with K-bullets, stabbed with K-blades, blasted with K-lasers--hell, at one point he was strapped to a Kryptonite chair and had a nuke dropped on his head--and still came back for more. And that's after being de-powered Post-Crisis. You're much better off using magic or screwing with his powers via red-sun radiation than relying on Kryptonite to take him out.

If you don't want Superman in the mix, simple!!!

Darkseid knows Clark. He has all the power in the universe. He can "turn" all the yellow stars into red stars and bam, Superman is better off staying in his fortress of solitude for this one.
