Best and Worst: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

This is something that's hard to discuss without time since a show ended, but it can be an interesting sort of discussion.

So basically, the question is: What's the best and worst season of Buffy?

Worst is easy for me. Despite having gripes about the last season, and the Initiative story arc, Season 5 is my least favourite.

I'll note it has nothing to do with the ending and Buffy dying. I think that would have been a good way for the show to go out. The full circle vibe was awesome. But the season was full of "fridge logic," pointless angst, erratic tone, a completely misused potential enemy (The Knights of McGuffin could have been an actual player), etc.

In short, lame.

Favourite? It's down to season 2 or 3. I only really liked Angel as a villain. But Faith and the Mayor kind of tip it to season 3.

Thoughts?

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”
