Since the Marlins traded Sanchez, I assume the Red Sox either will back out from trade talks with the Marlins because they wanted both Sanchez and Johnson or rumors of Hanley being included end up being true.

ESPN is obviously overlooking the fact that Gardner isn't coming back this year. This move basically replaces Gardner with someone with the exact same skills for the rest of the year.
I think this move is great for the Yankees. What they gave up was well worth taking a chance on Ichiro hoping it can rejuvenate him to play for a contender. They gave up a guy they picked off waivers earlier this year and a guy thats upside is that of a back-end starter or more likely bullpen arm. And they only pay 2M of his remaining deal.
Ibanez and Jones can go back to splitting time at DH which is the reason they were signed in the offseason to begin with.
