I think the standing ovation was more from how great the match was last night than people suddenly no longer hating him even in his own home town. Punk could have won and would have received the same ovation even with his Yankees-like attire.
Cena's main issue which has been a problem for years, although more of the writers and WWE's fault, is he's pretty inconsistent when it comes to really great performances either in the ring or on the mic. For example, his promos against the Rock were some of his best ever but once that feud was over, he went back to the bland monologue style that people grew tired of.

The standing ovation was definitely for how great the match was. But it happens a lot. He was booed going into the Lesnar match but at the end when he was making that comeback, the crowd was going NUTS for him. He drew them in. It's just weird that the guy can constantly perform so well people are always like "Fuck... good job, Cena!" and then as soon as it's over "YOU SUCK CENA!" Doesn't really make sense.
And people were praising Cena on the mic last Monday too. When he's involved in something/someone interesting, his promos are interesting. When he's not, they're not. Just like Punk. Just like everyone else who is capable of pulling off a great promo.
