It wasn't just the kick from Goldberg that ended his career though. I thought that Bret suffered multiple concussions during that match.

I read that Bret knocked himself out when he was putting in the figure four on the ring post (check out how his head bounces off the floor at 14:54). So in reality, Goldberg didn't concuss Bret. Bret concussed Bret.
