I'd like to see them do an 8-team playoff like this:
The 8 playoff teams are matched up based on normal seeding (1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc.) In some sort of contract, each conference selects a "home site" for if their conference team is the higher seed and plays host to another team. (Examples: Big XII - Cowboys Stadium, SEC - SuperDome, ACC - Sun Life Stadium, Big 10 - Lucas Oil Stadium, Pac 12 - Rose Bowl). The higher seed will be the "home team/host site" until the National Championship game which is bid out like the SuperBowl.
**Using the last BCS rankings for seeding
Round 1 (3 weeks before New Year's Day)
[1] Notre Dame vs [8] LSU {Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, IN}
[4] Oregon vs [5] Kansas State {Rose Bowl - Pasadena, CA}
[3] Florida vs [6] Stanford {SunLife Stadium, Miami, FL}
[2] Alabama vs [7] Georgia {SuperDome, New Orleans, LA}
National Championship Semi-Finals (2 weeks before New Years Day)
[8] LSU vs [4] Oregon {Rose Bowl - Pasadena, CA}
[2] Alabama vs [6] Stanford {Sugar Bowl - New Orleans, LA}
BCS National Championship Game (New Year's Day)
[2] Alabama vs [4] Oregon {SunLife Stadium - Miami, FL}
It gives you basically a week between the conference title games and the 1st round, a week between the 1st rd and 2nd rd, and 2 weeks to prep for the title game while giving a few days for kids to enjoy Christmas. You have all your who gives a shit bowls during the weeks without playoff games.
