Most of the notable spreads came after WWF was already quite popular. I don't doubt it helped a little, but I doubt it helped much.
It'd be interesting to see if a T&A promotion could put A in the seats for TNA, but I doubt it'd have that much of an impact.
It's possible that wrestling doesn't ever really break out again. At least, in the way people want. By people, I mean the IWC.
We have reality TV, MMA and "shock" programs, all which tap into part of WWE's 90s market. It's hard to imagine something ECW-like or MNW-like drawing enough attention.
