Abbott was a beast but seriously lacked skills and technique.. He was a brute with KO power in both hands..

What made him appealing in the mid 90's is the exact reason he eventually failed and wouldn't even make it to the UFC today.. He came out at UFC 6 and up until that point, opposed to what people think about the early "no holds barred" cage fighting events, all the UFC combatants had been respectful martial artists who came in to represent their school of discipline.. Abbott starched a 400lbs John Matau and then mocked him as he laid on the mat, in violent convulsions..

Amazing..

He would cut promos about fucking people up and how he was just happy to be able to beat people up and not only, not go to jail, but he was getting paid.. The best (other than the Mutau mock) was when he tried to throw Cal Worsham out of the cage at Ultimate Ultimate 96..

David Abbott was a small time criminal and bar fighter who was a great change of pace for fight fans who didn't understand submission or catch wrestling, BJJ, Judo, etc and wanted a guy with no fear who just wanted to stand and bang.. SEG knew this and made David Abbott into "Tank Abbott" after the Clint Eastwood movie Any Which Way but Loose, and he is still fighting professionally 17 years later..

With a 10-15 record, he is def not the best, but he made his mark on MMA (and WCW) with brute strength and a "fuck the world" attitude..
