It was put to the analog stick on PS1 games, but I don't think you could play PS3 games on the PSP. They could get away with it because a PS1 game could always use the d-pad so you could map the nub to perform the shoulder buttons. Presumably they'd have to make the back panel support the shoulder buttons as well.
