I don't feel like that makes a difference.

I've never heard anyone other than JR use phrases like "whipped like a government mule" or "stomping a mudhole". But, I was able to guess what they mean. Similarly, someone who doesn't know what "marking out" means should be able to guess approximately what it meant when Striker said it on commentary.
