The Chargers completely whiffed on their decision between Brees and coaching but it did make some sense back then.
Brees was showing signs of already peaking with the Chargers while he didn't really start to become an elite QB until around 2-3 years into his Saints era.
Using Rivers as an example, he probably wouldn't have been able to reach the next level of greatness had he staid there.
