Regardless, the comment didn't really serve much purpose. HHH has already repeatedly stated that Daniel Bryan isn't A list and that he's not face of the company material. Why does he need to bring up Edge, RVD and Jericho at all? It doesn't really serve a point unless he was just aiming to piss off the IWC which seems stupid considering that WWE hasn't seemed to care what the IWC thought... ever.
Only real reasoning I can see behind this is that maybe it was meant as a dis to Jericho for leaving and RVD for supposedly being upset with the way he was used.
Either way the whole thing seems stupid and unnecessary as a whole, as do the arguments about it.

Or it might have been to get heat. It might have been to draw parallels to stars of the beloved stars of the past. You're not meant to like or agree with the things a heel says a lot of the time. When he says that guys like Jericho, Edge and RVD weren't the top guy, he's trying to push fans of them into booing him and cheering Bryan. I think you're also meant to criticize Triple H, because you have to ask whether or not he was the top guy. It's potentially a heel
character (emphasis on character -- I'm sure the actual performer is fine) placing his insecurities on others.
This is actually a really great way of building towards Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H. Remember when it came up that Triple H was never as good as Shawn was when he was trying to take on The Undertaker? It's like that, but with Triple H big-noting himself when he looks at this guy that may have been better than he ever was.
I say it every chance I get -- I'd love to see Daniel Bryan vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX, but with the WWE probably going the route of Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar (which I don't really care much about at all to be honest), Triple H is also going to need someone to face at WrestleMania. In my dream world, it would be Sting with Ric Flair as the Special Guest Referee, but that would require Sting to sign with the WWE. Assuming that he doesn't, who else would make a great Mania opponent for Triple H? Everyone knows that Bryan is basically the best worker in the world, and Triple H will no doubt enjoy having a classic with a guy at WrestleMania.
