Hogan is hardly free from sin, but I think the good he's done for the business far outweighs the bad. Yes, it sucks that he didn't put over Bret, but Bret ended up being fine anyway. Same with Undertaker and Sting; people remember them winning their respective belts from Hogan way more than Hogan winning it right back. Same with Austin and company getting shoved out of WCW to make room for Hogan's buddies; they went to greener pastures in WWF and became way bigger stars as a result. Not saying that was Hogan's intention, but the people who were going to make it made it one way or another, with the exception of maybe Vader, and there's only so far a guy can go wth a Star Wars character's name.
Compared to what Hogan did in terms of defining professional wrestling to the masses-- and to this day, only Austin and the Rock come close on terms of being synonymous with wrestling like him-- and a few enemies made along the way doesn't seem that bad. That doesn't excuse his shenanigans, but it does make up for them IMO.
