To be honest I have never understood all of the criticism about the amount of destruction in Man of Steel. It was about a young omnipotent guy new to using his powers for battle, battling a crew of vengeful warlords, with the same powers that are new to them altogether, and alien technology trying to destroy the world so they could create a new one of their own vision. That pretty much states mass death and destruction. In addition they sequel is pretty much setting itself up for Lex turning people on Superman because of "look at what these aliens have done to our world".

If anything it was kind of dumb the Avengers didn't have more death & destruction than it did, what with enormous flying worms shooting explosives, aliens on speeder bikes trying to kill anything that moved (luckily they shot like storm troopers), bombs inside a bank full of people, as well as the Hulk jumping from building to building dropping debris on the street full of people below. Yet not a single building fell, and very few if any died. In fact we wrap it all up with a heartwarming story of Tony finally becoming the hero he never wanted to be, and the series trademark corny humor of everyone in costume gathering for Shawarma at the end.
