According to Bungie, 6-player raid mode can only be played with people on your friends list.

Destiny‘s six-player raids will not feature a matchmaking with strangers option, and can only be played with people on your friends list, Bungie has revealed.

Raids will be the most difficult content in Destiny and may take a couple of hours to complete, according to writer Luke Smith. Smith added that the decision to limit it to friends only is “a bit of a risk” because it requires players to have five other friends available to play the content with.

“The activity is going to take you and your group of five buddies into a place that you’ve never been,” he told IGN. “A place that you will return to frequently. And [it will] demand of you things you’ve never even really been asked to do in a shooter before.”
