Another thing is, Sword of DOOM, while it has many flaws, also has so much depth that it warrants a second viewing... and this is coming from me, who understands most films without even seeing the entire thing, much less on first viewing... so that's a plus.
But I wouldn't recommend the film as a first Samurai film. Not that I'm an expert... but you have to appreciate the norm to appreciate the deviation.
