It is better for the overall feel of the modes. Triple H at his current state facing HBK in Hell in the Cell would look stupid.

Only Cenas model didn't change that much.

Last two games had Attitude Era spotlight and WrestleMania matches spotlights. Every character had differnet models if they were in matches in the modes for changing facials, hair, clothes, etc if there was signigicant changes in what they looked like.

Ric Flair Vs. Macho Man at WM8 would look weird if Macho's Model looked like he did in 1987.

You can't even alter the attire of wrestlers fully in any of the games. You can only change the color of the stuff they are already wearing.
