Yeah it's hardly a moot point. As a business move I totally understand having Harvey go for the second home game instead. Weekday night games in April in New York are a tough sell and pitching Harvey then will lead to a bigger crowd.
But they handled it wrong by misleading the fans. They could have announced deGrom as the home opener starter a month ago and the game still would have sold out. Opening Day is practically a guaranteed sellout for every team every year.
Instead the opener not only sold out but people paid extremely high prices on StubHub and have bought premium ticket plans just because the expectation given by Alderson was that Harvey would be starting that game. For a team constantly trying to claim that they aren't financially strapped, doing stuff like this doesn't really help their cause.
