It might also create a hot bed for wrestling content. Maybe I'm stretching a little, but that's what people seem to want when they wish for competition to step up. Not just "more hours of wrestling on television," but a better product that elevates itself. Bryan vs. Nakamura could be like hot-shotting the industry. Not on a major mainstream worldwide level, but in the sense that exposing some Americans to New Japan might make them care more about wrestling, and be more willing to become a consumer of content for it. And by working with New Japan, you can really boost the Network's presence in Japan, which is all the WWE really cares about at this point.
Plus, if Vince (more likely Triple H and Stephanie at this point) are working with New Japan, then it leaves Jeff Jarrett in the dark with them a bit, and Vince probably hates Jarrett more than he hates those Japanese rasslers.
