Technically its history dates back to 1933. Jim Crockett Promotions was the promotion it was for 50 plus years til Ted Turner bought it.
Also you can't hold WCW responsible for those deaths imo. They didn't hold a gun to the heads of the talent and tell them to take drugs.

While there might be some exaggeration, their treatment of guys with drug and alcohol issues was pretty terrible, although at the time WWE was no better.
Making a joke out of Scott Hall's abuse and basically paying him to be a drunk and making it "fun", wasn't great.
Think Louie Spiccoli is similar, he was out of control and they did nothing about it.
Don't think WWE gets enough credit for how much they have improved that aspect of the business in recent years, for whatever reasons they did it.
