I agree with this. There were periods of time where the WWE Championship was the hottest property in the company -- during stints on both RAW and SmackDown; and the same can be said for the World Heavyweight Championship. The Supershow stuff did take what was special about SmackDown away from it, but the company had pulled real support for the product before that -- the World Heavyweight Title wasn't in a main event since like 2010.
When John Cena won the World Title, it felt like he could have breathed some new life into it. I mean, look at what he did for the US Title. There is no doubt in my mind that a US Title match could close a show with John Cena at the helm. It's the champion that makes the championship. What
didn't work was having two World Champions under one brand.
That being said, we've only had a "WWE World Heavyweight Champion" for two years now. Is it too soon to split it back into the "WWE Champion" and "World Heavyweight Champion"? Maybe creating a new championship is the best way to go about things. A unique name could help the brand stand out, as well.
