I would argue that the plan was brilliant, and that the time period between Summerslam 2013 and Wrestlemania 30 was probably the hottest that the WWE had been in years. Daniel Bryan became even more popular after fans (both marks and IWC) perceived him being held back.

Exactly. Bryan was over huge at Mania. Its not like WWE planned for Bryan to get hurt and make the previous 8 months of build a waste of time.
