I'm not necessarily excited about the result, but I have to give them credit, like I always try to do when it happens, for having the guts to do something different. It's been a long, long time for a World Title change on Raw outside of the MitB cash-ins, and that's an easy hook to get people to come back to the weekly shows, because anything could happen.
They've maanged to make the crowd--and let's underscore that this was in Philadelphia of all places--mostly happy for a Reigns title win. It's a lot like the Daniel Bryan journey, and not just because they cribbed from it. It's basically the same in that they spent the past few months bumblefucking around and backed into two shows to make things better and finally figured out how to push the right character/gimmick.
It's kind of a shame that it's heading into a couple of weeks of lame duck holiday shows, but hopefully they can do some shit to preserve tonight's momentum and head into a new era where Smackdown may be a super relevant show (for a few months).
