Small update mostly about who it was that convinced Vince to not go for the fired option as punishment.
Quote:
According to PWTorch, Titus was going to be fired over the issue by McMahon. However, both Joey Mercury and Triple H talked him out of the firing, which is why the suspension was so high originally. Clearly it was reduced since then, but Vince was still ticked over the ordeal.
This put WWE in quite a bind, as it came off stupid to almost everyone. Most of the talent are staying quiet on the issue, but those who have spoken up mention that nothing seemed that bad. Few even knew about the suspension until the news outlets reported on it.

Seems the "Vince wanting to teach the locker room a lesson" and the whole "unprofessional conduct" were excuses by the WWE trying to defuse the situation as quickly as possible. Unlike other incidents in the past, WWE hasn't released an official statement regarding Titus which is making people believe those were just PR excuses.
Vince wanted him fired as the first option and it took a lot to both convince him how bad it would look PR-wise and to agree on Titus missing out on the big Mania paycheck instead with the 60 days punishment.
