From what I remember, the locker room basically had to plea Creative and/or Vince to let Ryder win since they felt he deserved to get his Mania moment after years of being the butt of jokes by Vince.
Him winning even if it just lasted a day was one of the very few bright spots from this year's Mania.
Ryder winning ended up being the perfect way for Miz to benefit the most with a quick title change. Not only does he get hated even more by the crowd, it also played into people thinking Vince pulled another gag on Ryder. If Zayn was the champ and Owens cost him the title, Miz doesn't get as big of a heel reaction than he did with Ryder.
