Dolph isn't really anything special, he lacks the IT factor that a lot of guys have who make it big. He also tends to rush matches and they come off very "samsey". He rarely changes things up and is stale.
I don't think people bought him as a contender after how he has been booked recently. Some people wanted to, because of the buildup in the few weeks before the match...but he was never a contender and the way the match was booked has killed off any chance of him becoming one soon.
