A fairly long listen, but what Lance Storm says about Clash of Champions PERFECTLY sums up my feelings on it. How are guys really supposed to be excellent and stand out if they are doing the exact same things? If everyone is "good," how can anyone truly be great? No one transcends because everybody is on equal footing and brings the same philosophy to all their matches.
I was watching Clash and thought to myself "This is the same sort of stuff" several times throughout. Sasha and Sami used the same comeback at one point. I think they may have even been cut-off at the same point too. There were gourdbusters off the second rope twice during the show, everybody did a dive, there was ringside brawling for every match, and almost everyone kicked out of someone else's finisher. How can this possibly be suspenseful to people? I feel like Storm articulates what a large part of my problem with WWE has been lately.
That's one thing I really like about Rusev. The stuff with Reigns was more like an Attitude era main event, and it was a bit overbooked, but I'll remember Lana pulling out the referee for much longer than I will the particulars of just about everything else on the card, other than that Cesaro dive. And I've noticed that -- in what I've watched of him anyway -- that Rusev doesn't kick out of other guys' stuff. It took one AA to beat him at WrestleMania, and he didn't actually kick out of the Spear at the Clash. I don't know if that's his doing or what have you, but more and more I'm noticed that this guys does A LOT more with a lot less.
