I first started watching wrestling with WCW circa 1998. I got to see a year and a half of Bret's career when he was already in his 40s and he spent a lot of time on the shelf even before the Goldberg kick. 1999 Macho Man was even worse, roided up beyond measure and only wrestled a few matches. That was my first exposure to both men, hardly flattering on either front.

The big difference is when I watch older wrestling from periods of time in which I didn't have an emotional investment, I find myself enthralled with Savage's work whereas Bret matches, while technically good, just don't seem to hook me in.
