I honestly think he would have got over if he had left the group as a heel and remained a silent killer, or a paid mercenary type character. People would have been salivating for a turn after a while. What he is now is fake and forced and people see right through it. I fear it is too late for him to be a massive star too, because his flaws have been brutally exposed.
Like Dale said, Lex was also at his best when he was being a bit of a dick and a poser who loved his body. He wasn't an all American hero and people never got behind him when he was presented as one.
